2014 Second Use is Now a Verified Agent for DPD Required Salvage Assessment https://www.seconduse.com/2015/03/2014-second-use-is-now-a-verified-agent-for-dpd-required-salvage-assessment/ Mon, 16 Mar 2015 22:49:28 +0000 http://seconduse.com.s167170.gridserver.com/?p=964 Are you aware of the DPD Required Salvage Assessment in Seattle? As of July 1, 2014, a new requirement mandates that before demolition, homeowners must have a verified agent, such as Second Use, complete a Salvage Assessment. Here are the basics:

1. If you are planning a demolition or remodeling project that includes demoltion with a scope of work greater than 750 square feet, you are now required to submit a Deconstruction and Salvage Assessment.

2. The assessment indicates which of the materials identified in the plan are potentially salvageable, and can be completed free of charge by one of our estimators.

3. Material is not required to be salvaged from your project site at this time, but the assessment allows you to be aware of alternatives to waste.

Don’t hesitate to contact our salvage crew (206-763-6929×4) with any questions and to schedule your FREE Salvage Assessment.

A copy of the Salvage Assessment is avaliable here.

2009 Year in Review https://www.seconduse.com/2015/02/2009-year-in-review/ Wed, 18 Feb 2015 17:27:36 +0000 http://seconduse.com.s167170.gridserver.com/?p=457 This past fall, we proudly celebrated our 15th anniversary.  We’ve come a long way from our original yard in Woodinville and want to thank all of you for helping us to continue this valuable work.

In 2009, Second Use diverted more than 1,360 ton of reusable building material from the landfill – our biggest year yet!

So, what does that mean exactly?  It works out to around the equivalent of:

  • 1030 ton of avoided CO2 pollution
  • 4,837,301 kilowatt hours
  • and 132,893 gallons of gas

You can see what kind of impact you had in 2009 by visiting our online embodied energy calculator.

In addition, donations through Second Use, to our Habitat for Humanity partners helped to raise more $175,000!  That’s almost enough to build 2 Habitat homes.

We hope that, in the coming year, we will be able to do even more to fulfill our commitment to you, our customers, and the community.
