Join us for a demonstration on the basics of refinishing wood, with an eye towards working on home repair and furniture. We’ll start out by discussing how to remove existing finishes from wood items, and discuss ways to make small repairs of damaged areas. We’ll also discuss best practices for applying finishes, with a focus on environmentally-friendly and human-healthy products. Workshop participants will not be doing any hands-on work, but Kelsey will have several examples and provide some live demonstration of the concepts she discusses.

She is continually working on keeping her home historic, functional, and cute. She also enjoys refinishing wood furniture, bringing back to life older items that just need a little work to shine again! She also happens to be an amazing illustrator.

Salvaged cabinets are one of the most popular ways to incorporate reclaimed materials into a remodel. Like most salvaged material, working with salvaged cabinets presents many rewards, as well as a few challenges.

Join Doug Elfline of Mighty House Construction on Saturday, October 22nd to gain an understanding of how to shop for salvaged cabinets, prevent common installation mistakes, identify the different types and parts of cabinets, and determine what type of cabinets are the best fit for your project. In the Q&A portion you are welcome ask other (non-cabinet related) kitchen remodel questions as well!

In this workshop you will learn information on how to remove old glazing from a wood-framed window, and how to reglaze with a linseed putty & paint system. Kelsey is a wood window evangelist and will be giving demonstrations of each step she goes through to revitalize a wood window sash to its full glory.

Second Use invites you discover the who-what-where-and-why of power tools with Doug Elfline of Mighty House Construction.

This workshop is absolutely FREE, will be held at our Seattle store, and will teach you how to assess which tool is the right tool, how to plan your tool use, what safety considerations to be aware of, and how to troubleshoot potential problems. There will be a short presentation, followed by a live demonstrations of popular power tools, a conversation on where to find them, and we will leave some time for a Q+A.
